Fun night with someone special and lots of her friends. So much food.

Actually learning a bit with the tin whistle. Might not make an ass of myself on stage.

It is decided that I need to:

-do more drawing, forgot how much I enjoyed that
-learn four-ball mill's mess
-keep learning whistle, even after the play
-exercise more at home
-watch Amercian Beauty with above mentioned special someone.

G'night

Pleased to meet you
Hope you guess my name
But what’s puzzling you
Is the nature of my game

I got drenched walking home in the rain tonight and so decided to go dancing Gene Kelly style in the down-poor. The few people driving by must have thought me mad but it was so much fun, they don't know what they missed.

I watched with glee
While your kings and queens
Fought for ten decades
For the gods they made

I feel better now than I have the last few days. I feel a lot of frustration lately, the only thing that seems to help is getting physically exhausted, which I have been doing on a regular bases.

I don't think this will get a whole lot better, at least until after the play ends.

Just as every cop is a criminal
And all the sinners saints
As heads is tails
Just call me lucifer
’cause I’m in need of some restraint

We had lots of cuts to the play tonight, hopefully it will now be shorter than SIX HOURS LONG.

On the up side of things I'm progressing a lot with juggling.

Aaagh! I gave Aaron a bad throw!

Pretty fun rehearsal last night... crossbow? yes please!

Sunday we're supposed to be off-script, aaah!

Went to Ben's pub after juggling on tuesday with James and Downey. Had such a good chat about the JAQ convention and Montreal last May, damn those were good times

So much juggling during the last few days, so many new things are falling into place:
-beginings of four-ball mill's mess
-back-to-back passing, six club four-count and even two-count
-back-to-front weird passing pattern
-burke's barrage with clubs
-toss into a forehead stall with a stage ball
-FLASHING FIVE CLUBS!!!
-Eight club passing is getting half solid? what is that?
-Nine clubs with Aaron!

I actually had to ice my elbow last night because it was sore and I plan to do a lot more practice tonight.

Monday was sitting next to the leg of a dead person, being percussed.

Tuesday was the best juggling in a while, for me(six-club back-to back, eight club doubles and triples, etc.), and fun things with computers.

Wednesday was hot smoothies and a great rehearsal.

Thursday was lots of great people, fun with Dracula and kisses.

Today was a great meeting with Beni and Pete. Talked about the next few months, possible changes, new ideas and the like.

Yummm....

Twenty more minutes...

Oh well, guess I should sleep now.

Answer the question, forget the rest.

Today was dripping possibilties.

Things are comming together, my road seems to be going somewhere.

Tomorrow will be busy, pretending grown-up, know what I'm doing.

Fresh kisses remind me of who I want to be.

If you knew you were a role-model, what role would you model?

Blast from the past, isn't it wierd to think how much you've changed in... shit, seven years? Those lessons are still being learned. I wish you the luck I didn't have... Well, I wish on you that which you need. I have no regrets from then, I'm a better person now because of it...
And I have moved on.

Mercedes-Benz SUV... "Pretty good for an hour"... my ass for an hour...

Show was good, though. Mostly improvised. The kid's stinky shoe was tough, but talking to the audience is getting easier and more productive. The suitcase thing is going to work.

I'm signed up for the character-mask workshop and today is the final audition for that play, so I should here back soon, one way or the other.

Late nights result in me not going to the Delta... This is not good. 630am here I come.

... I need a shower.

Fee-ooo!

No longer doing impossible bounce act... now doing difficult ball act... that is such a weight off my shoulders.

Opening night is just five days away... AAH!

Going to die by falling off a giraff... and falling under other giraffs...

...oh well.

Bye!

Running with your eyes closed

Superman was quite old before he learned to fly, it was the last power he learned how to use... could you imagine what those first few flights were like, into the unknown?

Today, as part of the workshop, we went to a field and ran as fast as we could, with our eyes closed, until we were told to stop... It seems really simple but it turned out to be more terrifying and exhilarating than I could have imagined.

So yesterday, after three hours of sleep, I somehow manage to wake up. Hungover, still in costume, smelling of smoke... and the pickled sausage I ate the night before on a dare, I headed with James to the first day of the clown workshop.

I can't express what this workshop is like, mostly because I can't properly describe the instructor, Ian Wallace. I can say that, largely because of how Ian leads the workshop, I can't remember ever being so comfortable with a group largely made up of strangers.

We have been doing seemingly simple exercises like running with your eyes closed or standing in front of a group of people in silence, doing nothing but making a connection with each person one by one. This strips us of surprisingly strong fears, shows us the tools we use to handle those fears and also shows us that we don't need those fears, even when we are opening ourselves up to people, even if they are not kind to us back. This is a difficult lesson but a powerful one, especially after busking on george street.

Today we made our first of six masks... with our eyes closed. Each mask was made more with emotion and as little thought as possible. Everyone was surprised at what they're mask looked like when we finally opened our eyes. I can't wait 'till all sixty masks are made and painted...

That's all for now.

I've had the most amazing couple of days.

I went to see Mr. Invisible again on Sunday and was, again, blown away by the performance. I met Ian, the man who teaches the clown workshop, as he was attending the show as well. James, Pete, Downey and I all agreed on the amazing talent of the cast of Mr. I. After the show James informed me that we had been commisioned to perform for the MANY children who came to see the show. Using James' juggling equipment we did a quick improv juggling show, it went quite well and the above metioned Ian watched the performance.

Later that night James, Tim and I performed the new show we had written and the crowd loved it. Ah, to be in front of an audience again... We did a lot of things in the show that were more experimental for us, going outside of what we're used to doing and I think it paid off. One of the many wonderful people in the audience was Ian, again. This means that he saw both James and I perform twice before our first day of the workshop.

There was a party in the LSPU hall after the show with lots of great people. After a little alcohol consumption James, Tim and I ran to the Spur, leaving our jackets and all our equipment in the hall. The night continued in the spur and later in Bar None (?)with conversations with wicked people like Al Corbet.

We eventually realized that the hall was probably closed at four in the morning and decided to retire to James' place. Quite drunk and still in my costume, my head hit the pillow at quarter past five with the first day of an epic workshop less than five hours away.

I should be juggling right now, so my first two days of the workshop will have to wait 'till next entry.

Mr. Invisible, 2pm, Sunday?

It's been a busy week.

I just saw Jeff's musical. His school put together a number of musical pieces from different popular movies and it proved to be quite impressive. He played Sax, apparently they learned the Lion King section in just under a week... I don't remember my junior high doing anything as fun as that... Yesterday i went to Lauren's art show, some of the pieces there blew my socks off. Where did these kids get such talent?

I've been putting in a good bit of time practicing with James and Tim for the show on sunday, though it feels like we need a lot more time to rehearse. I think it has the potential to be a very good act, I really hope it goes well.

Juggling tomorrow, whee!

Mr. Invisible, an amazing new clown show, is playing both tomorrow and Sunday, anyone want to go see it Sunday? I'm going and some other people have expressed interest in going as well. I've seen the show already and loved it. if you saw Nosebleed, Sara and Pat's last show together, you will know something of what kind of show it is going to be. If you haven't seen they're past shows... go Sunday, you don't know what you're missing. It's eight bucks for tickets but $25 for four people, playing at the LSPU Hall. Be there!

My shoulders are sore from trying cartwheels and handstands in Bowring park, yesterday was so beautiful... now I have a sun burn... ouch.

I've signed up for a three-week long workshop doing mask making and "baby" clown at the Reid theatre. It's a workshop in the Richard Pochinko style of clowning. Don't know what that means? Don't worry, I didn't either until yesterday. I'm sooooo excited. I hope this will make me a better performer for this summer and feed my desire to get back into more theatre type stuff.

Went busking on... um, Tuesday? It was so fun! It can be difficult to get comfortable talking to complete strangers walking by, but once you open up it can really pay off. Highlights: random girl talking about Soleil's new show, which she saw LIVE *sigh*; creepy, young, american, born-again guy who's dream was to go to Mecca and teach the Islamic people about Jesus *shakes head*; and tip of the day-two beer tokens from the Spur.

That's all for now,
cheers,
david

Good day today. Juggling was fun, as usual. James and I talked through some more ideas for the show.

I went to Mr. Invisible with Jeff, Lauren and David tonight. I love all the red-nose, clown shows that Pat Dempsey and Sara Tilly have done, this one is no exception. This time they are joined by a third performer, I can't remember his real name. My favorite prop was the kiddie harness that Sara wore the whole show, so funny. I think it's playing again the weekend of the 28th and 29th, anyone interested in seeing it one of those days? Wha'dya think, a nice visit to the hall? I'd love to see it again.

It's amazing what they can accomplish with clown. I am inspired. I want to be on stage more. Come on everyone, let's start our own theatre company!

Last night was amazing! James and I were the only ones at juggling, so even though we were a bit lonely, we got to concentrate on a lot of stuff. We worked on eight club passing and found that we can actually pass eight together! Triple spins were a bit more dangerous. I also flashed five clubs for the first time!!!!! I killed my hands working on five clubs, but I can see the foundation is all ready there. The five club cascade is the goal to end all goals for me, if I can get that in the next couple of years it's going to be very strange setting even loftier goals.

If I can really throw myself into five club juggling it should light a fire under Aaron's bum, too. When we start pushing his limits I think it should be fun to see what the best juggler in the province is capable of.

Lots of talk about revenge of the sith, I think I may see if I can buy a ticket after SP-ing at the health science building today. I hope I'm invited.

Wahoo! Filed my taxes and with like 38 minutes to spare, too. Hey, I was busy... and out of town.

Burin was fan-fuckin-tastic, that whole week could not have gone better. The kids loved the classes, the teachers were impressed with the impact we had on the kids, the gym teacher wants to set up a juggling club for the school, there's a chance to go back again and watch the students to continue to improve. Junior high girls think I have a nice ass... that's just wrong.

Did a really easy show at Lakecrest on Sunday, mostly animations. That means I got to put on my old costume and make-up and ride around on a unicycle, do some easy passing and teach a bunch of kids how to juggle scarves, all in the space of about an hour and get paid quite well for it. We'll leave the private-school politics go this time.

After Lakecrest, and trying to get all the clown-white off my face, Pete and I met up with Tracy and Eve, Pete's girlfriend, and we all headed to India Gate for supper. Mmm, delicious orange goo... *drools* We then went to flemming to watch The Wickerman as a Mayday celebration. Interesting movie, would have been quite positive for paganism in general if they hadn't urnbay-ed the oliceofficerpay at the end of the movie, whatever, anyone that stupid got what was commin' to him.

Lauren had a painting hanging in City Hall today for some youth-art-thing. pretty cool. It was the one with the peanut, no matter what she says. She was there with Jenna, one of her friends, and Rebecca, one of our cousins. We ate LOTS of free food, mmm, strawberries and cream *droools* and they insisted on driving me home, it took about double the time to drive as it would to walk... Then taxes, and now internet.

bye bye internet.

18 HOURS LEFT!

Last night was so much fun, I met up with Melissa, Catriona, Simone, and others at Hava Java. We stayed there for about four hours, drank quarts of mint tea and were very load.

I was going to go juggle torches with Pete, but as it was getting late and I found myself surrounded by jugglers, I invited them along to Beni's juggling space. After a quick trip to Melissa's we were off.

When we arrived at the space Beni and Jozz were trying to work out some details for the up-coming show (All Fool's Day, opening April 1st at The Hall, I think I'll be going closing night, everyone reading this should go also!!1) I can't write anything about the top-secret plot, but after at least an hour of looking at costumes and playing with toys, Pete attempted to eat one of his new torches...

Well, there must have been too much fuel left on it or something but the torch would almost go out and them a huge BALL OF FIRE would come out of his mouth! The first few time this happened it was very impressive, the last time it was insane. Fire not only burst from his mouth straight out, but it also looked like it engulfed his whole face!! Between fits of uncontrollable, nervous laughter, we asked him not to do it again. I kid-you-not, this was the most intense thing I have ever seen right in front of me. Beni said that he thought Pete's eye's were going to burst from the heat...

Now, I was being a safety person while this was happening, ready to smother unwanted fire and the like... and Pete wasn't hurt, though he did say later that he felt like he had a sun-burn. DON'T TRY THIS AT HOME KIDS! WE ARE TRAINED PROFFECIONALS!....

... in other news, I got a 512MB card for the camera. It's got oodles of memory, I can take over 3100 pictures on the lowest setting and well over 600 on the default setting. Montreal: Here I come!!!

Posted on 2005.03.27 at 13:54
Hello one and all,
I'm back from my wacky trip teaching in Sheshashui. It was quite the eye-opening experience. I still have a hard time believing some of the stuff that happened while I was there. One thing is for sure, that was an adventure. I came back with the feeling that I am good at something, that I can adapt to difficult situations, that I'm capable. It's a nice feeling.

So now I'm leaving for my next trip on Wednesday. I'm soon off to Montreal for the JAQ juggling convention... I CAN'T WAIT. It's going to be hard-core juggling followed by hard-core partying with James, Kat and maybe Aaron.

Well I'm off, lots to do.
love
david

I just had a meeting with Beni, Ruth and Jerry. Luckily I wasn't the only one who didn't know what was going on. Now everything has been cleared up and I am super-excited about going to Labrador! It sounds like it should be a lot of fun... about 36 hours before I leave!!!

Yesterday was loads of fun, I had a really good time SP-ing, though it was pretty weird. Juggling was wonderful, I had a run of eight clubs (doubles) with Aaron that went at least three times longer than ever before. We also had a down-right decent run of eight club (triples) and even a run or two of nine clubs (triples) that held together for a while.

I hope the pay-off for the Labrador trip is good, one of my clubs finally lost its knob making it now a juggling wand.

I can't wait!!!

Here's another one
